Help neighbors verify whether their street is delayed by upcoming holidays so cans aren't left out on empty curbs:
Check address-specific pickup days, recycling week parity, and local transfer stations:
In New York, residential pickup generally slides forward by one business day when an observed municipal holiday falls on a weekday. Days earlier in the week prior to the holiday run on normal schedules.
Curbside solid waste, recycling, and bulk collection across New York is managed by City of New York and serviced primarily by NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY).
Set bins out after 6:00 PM the evening before collection (or after 8:00 PM if using sealed bags for buildings over 9 units). Retrieve bins by 9:00 AM on collection day.
All residential buildings in NYC with 1 to 9 units are required to place all trash out in rigid bins with secure latching lids (up to 55 gallons). Plastic bags directly on the curb are subject to sanitation summonses.
Yes, curbside composting is now mandatory citywide across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island for all food scraps and yard waste.
